Vintage 1971 Headboard designed by George Nakashima and built at the Nakashima Studio in New Hope, PA. The piece was part of purchase by a New York client that purchased multiple pieces for her daughter in 1970 & 1971 including a Conoid student desk, bureaus and chairs.
The headboard is 54" at the widest and 36 " at the highest. It has two support post for the plank top with a lower stretcher. The support posts are drilled to accept a bedframe.
The headboard plank has two live edges, lively wood graining including sapwood edges and a signature butterfly joint that stabilizes a fissure on the left side. The oiled finish is in very good condition ( a finish care kit can be purchased at the NAKASHIMA Studio). Overall excellent condition.
